Howard Kelly, will be opening up the beautiful Riverbend Art & Wine Gallery for a night of sparkling entertainment.
The soiree will include all things fine: piano playing; singing, a gorgeous 3-course dinne, wine tasting and exquisite art - all delightfully mixed into a delectable and outlandish brew right in the Gallery itself.

Together, Barbie & Jonathan form a formidable and fun pair. Musically, they team up to offer both haunting and playful duets from everything from Evita to Rod Stewart . This is interspersed with hilarious bits of information not only about the songs they perform but about each other!
Barbie has again promised to include some of Herman Charles Bosman’s beautiful poetry “to balance Jonathan’s insistence at reciting ridiculous limericks and Gnu outbursts between songs”, she laughs.

So don a pair of glamorous heels, slip on a dinner jacket and don’t miss out on this one-night only, intimate evening of sparkling entertainment.

“…Barbie Meyer and Jonathan Brauteseth gave a performance of epic proportions, performing heart wrenching duets while simultaneously providing standup comedy throughout. These two are an act not to be overlooked; their powerful voices are utterly captivating, totally enchanting, they hold the audience completely in their grasp. It has been a long time since I have seen a pair more connected with their audience and singing from the very depth of the soul.” Shannon Taylor (review from a piano soiree at Leonardo Gallery in Pretoria 2015).

What’s it all about?!
Actress Barbie Meyer will be coming to perform one of her entertaining one-woman, Herman Charles Bosman shows. This theater piece is entitled “Bosman’s Veld Maiden”.
Bill and Gail felt that this type of classic, hilarious storytelling lends itself to ‘kuiering’ and supper and not having to drive home on your ox wagon after!
So they have prepared an overnight package deal. This includes a welcoming peach brandy (any self-respecting Marico farmer would be proud), a three course South African themed meal, Barbie Meyer’s Show, overnight stay at the beautiful Green Lantern Inn as well as breakfast the next morning. All this for R1080 per couple. Or R190p.p. for just Show & Supper if you’re already in the area.

“Bosman’s Veld Maiden” is an intoxicating blend of humour, irony & wit.

Alluring Marico ghosts, countless bottles of mampoer and elusive romances – both funny and enthralling - this is undoubtedly South African storytelling at its best!

Herman Charles Bosman’s hilarious short stories are brought to life by the comical veld maiden herself – Barbie Meyer.

Herman Charles Bosman (1905-1951) was a South African writer and journalist who became famous for capturing the rhythms of backveld Afrikaans speech even though he wrote in English. He is widely regarded as the greatest short story writer to come out of this country. His books are some of the finest in the field of South-African literature.

“Everyone loves a good story and no-one wrote them quite as beautifully, insightfully and downright hilariously as Bosman”, says blonde Barbie Meyer with a passionate twinkle in her eye.

After seeing Patrick Mynhardt transformed into Oom Schalk on the stage and hearing him tell Bosman’s intrinsically South African short stories, Barbie Meyer never quite saw the world in the same way again. “Quite simply I was hooked from an early age” she laughs. Barbie had the privilege of meeting and performing alongside Patrick in his latter years.

One senses that the Bosman stories that Meyer performs will be filled with hilarity, beauty, passion, irony and wit - words which Meyer constantly uses to describe his work.

As with Meyer’s previous shows; she has been able to bring to life a balanced and highly palatable assortment of this famous author’s short stories, essays and poetry. Tasty titbits about Bosman’s Bohemian and rather controversial life have been woven into the work and the show is suitable for all ages.
Bosman’s Veld Maiden is directed by the evergreen Bets Basson.

So expect comical and witty storytelling through the mouth of an attractive blonde khaki boer as well as through the eyes of a veld maiden. A little romantic, a tad sensual but of course touched with Bosman’s unmistakable twists in the tail…and tales!
The show is all in English.
